The Results of the “Nioh 2” Character Creation Contest!
1/28/2020

We are ready to announce the winners of the “Nioh 2” Character Creation contest that begun on November 1, 2019!

Over the 10 days the contest was held, we received over 2,000 extraordinary submissions from the players of “Nioh 2” Beta demo. Thank you all for your entries!

After much deliberation, in addition to the six originally planned winners, the judges from the “Nioh 2” development team decided to add a “Special Award” category, featuring two more works, bringing the total number of winners to 8! All of the winning entries are posted below, together with the comments from the judges.

The winning entries will appear as character creation "presets" in the final version of the game, and the winners’ names will be listed in the game credits.

Furthermore, the possibility of adding some of the non-winning entries as NPCs to appear in the game is also currently being considered. If you have submitted your work, be sure to look around carefully once the game comes out, and maybe you’ll meet the character you created!

Male Characters
Ruder

Presence, charisma, and personality worthy of a spin-off.
Brilliant use of the “Oni” ink!
Hirohisa Kaneko, CG Director

CHANO

Captivating use of scarring and face decoration.
This characters illustrates the kind of wild strength we didn’t really have in any of our templates. He really looks like someone who can face and beat any kind of obstacle all on his own.

Juny Ymmt

A prototypical warlord, who has proven himself in many battles.
I applaud the intense spirit captured in the eyes, showing us that this man is not one to lose to the younger warriors. He may look older, but you can feel the power inside.
Most of the entries we have received focused on younger characters, and this one really did stand out. I think it’s really cool!

Female Characters
Siutyler

While the hair coloring and highlights really stand out, there is an overall consistency and balance that speaks of a singular taste and sense of color. Combining face decor to make a heart shape shows the kind of creativity even we in the dev. team can learn from!
Hirohisa Kaneko, CG Director

Fujiko Fujimino

A cool, dark hero. This work makes a smart use of many punk-style elements from the creator.
Tasteful use of color, overall balance, even the use of shine with the eyeshadow shows real skill. Very effective and realistic use of beauty marks.

Character Designer for “Nioh 2”

Bo Diaz

The short hair and the single line across the face really give this character an appearance of a female ninja living in the world of Nioh.
While not flashy, it’s a kind of creation that instantly makes you begin to imagine the story behind this character by simply looking at it.
Hirohisa Kaneko, CG Director

Special Awards
Koma-p Tenzen

This likeness of Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of FINAL FANTASY XIV was in fact the most re-tweeted entry in this contest.
Since Yoshida-san himself was kind enough to give us the green light, saying ‘as it’s royalty-free material’, we have included it as one of our Special Awards!
Fumihiko Yasuda, Producer

Jesse Black

While simple, this design spoke of a clever use of only necessary elements and attention to the detail, without relying on extra adornments. We decided to feature it in our Special Award section, because it really felt like a creation showcasing the strengths of our character creator.
Fumihiko Yasuda, Producer
