Exploration Basics
Flashlight
Scan the area with the flashlight to find otherwise hidden items.
Moving with the flashlight turned off will make you less noticeable to wraiths.
The flashlight will flicker when there are spirit phenomena nearby.
There are also certain situations in which the flashlight cannot be used.
Hold Hands/Help Up
Hold Mayu's hand to recover Health and Willpower.
When a wraith's attacks put Mayu on the verge of death, she will collapse and be unable to move. Be sure to help her to her feet.
Protecting Mayu
The game is over if Mayu's HP reaches zero.
When Mayu is threatened by wraiths, help her by shooting photographs of them with the Camera Obscura.
Objective Notifications
Objectives such as items you need to find or locations you need to reach are indicated in the upper-left of the screen.
Updates to the status of Side Stories will also appear here.
Items
Healing items appear in the item shortcut at the bottom-left of the screen.
| Herbal Medicine | Restores player health. |

| Sacred Water | Fully restores player health. |
| Stone Mirror | Fully restores player health if health reaches zero (one time per mirror). Simply having the mirror in your inventory is enough for it to work. |
| Lunar Incense | Boosts Willpower recovery for a time. |
| Film | The type of film in use affects things like shot power and reload speed. Film can be switched while the Camera Obscura is raised. |
The Spirit Stone Radio and Charms
You may come across Spirit Stones while exploring. Use the Spirit Stone Radio to hear the voices embedded in the stones.
Spirit Stones can also be equipped as charms. They grant various effects like healing speed boosts or reduced damage, so remember to equip them.
Note: Charm Bags increase the number of charms that can be equipped. They can be obtained from the Spend Points menu on the Save screen (bags become available as the game progresses).
Wraith Attacks
Grab Attacks
Sometimes, wraiths will try to grab the protagonist during combat. Willpower will be continually drained while in the clutches of the wraith.
You can break free of the wraith by evading.
Wraiths may also try to grab outside of combat, such as when you go to pick up an item. Pull your hand back quickly to avoid the attack.
Leer Attacks
At times wraiths will leer at the protagonist while the Camera Obscura is raised in combat. Your Willpower will take damage if you meet the wraith's gaze. Wraiths can also leer outside of combat, such as when you open doors.
Evade before a wraith leers to create an opening for a counterattack or preemptive strike.
